Honestly, I got this product when it was 7. It came folded up (very compact) and it took me about 15 minutes or so to put it together. So simple! Plus, it was delivered really quickly. I ordered it on 10/20 and it arrived 10/25. It's really easy to convert into a bed. I originally ordered it so visitors would have a place to sleep; I took a nap on it the other day, and it was really comfortable. A very good deal for under 0. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful ![]() Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dorel Home Products Emily Splitback Futon, Black (Misc.) MAJOR FAIL! On assembly, the seatbacks stopped staying up after about 5 minutes! It works randomly, failing to lock upright at times, staying in the bed position. I already gave this one star and wrote the following paragraphs before the major mechanical failure:The main detraction is that the item is unfinished on the back. If one puts it anywhere except against a wall, it shows the non-matching, cheap fabric on the back. This thin lining is badly stapled and glued, with threads hanging and a few noticible gaps where the inside materials show through the uneven edges. The lining fabric should only be for the underside, facing the floor. Two more yards of the matching vinyl and some decent workmanship would have made an attrctive, low priced, finished couch-bed. The design and concept are not terrible and a better execution of this would make a satisfying product. At or near this price, with little refinement, this could easily be 4 or 5 stars. The misleading photo shows the couch positioned in a room with clear area to walk behind. Putting this where one can walk behind it is like wearing a nice suit with the fly down. So close to an appropriate appearance becomes a very inappropriate appearance. To be clear, the vinyl upholstry is not used on the backs of the cusions that are exposed when in upright position, and is also not on the top and sides of the small ledge that is exposed in same position. A flimsy nylon (?) fabric is used instead, and not well applied, it sags in spots. If this is done to save money, it's a mistake. The value lost by not making the product look finished far exceeds whatever savings gained by the fabric swirch. Why bother making a piece of furniture that can't be placed back-to viewer? People put couches mid-room, and the option should be preserved, making the piece more useful and versitle. It should be made to last many years in different situations. [If it were better upholtered, the support ledge may need adjusting to accomodate the vinyl, so it will lay flat in bed position.] The workers who labor to build this should be able to use their energy on better goods. I wanted it to face a large window, dividing a studio kitchen area from the sitting/sleeping area. The ugly back makes the whole object a waste of money and resources. It's 2/3 of a piece of furniture. At the very least, a clear photo of the back should be shown on the product page. In addition to this main problem, there is some unattractive sagging on the vinyl cushions in front from sub par sewing/construction/ design. Also, the seat backs are slightly uneven from each other when upright, from less than accurate construction/measurements. I'm sad to need to arrange the return shipping. I loathe the waste of both fuel and worker's time to haul this around (love those delivery people). I worry about buying heavy items from Amazon when, if they are bad quality, repacking and return shipping can be very dificult. Motivation to settle for keeping this is high, but I feel ripped-off by the ugly cheapness of the unfinished part. 9 should buy better than this! Finally, pay attention to the length, only about 71", but seems shoter. It fit me (I'm 5'6") head to foot, just barely. As a bed/futon, anyone much taller might find his feet hanging off the edge. That's OK, there's pleanty of market for this size, just noting for my tall friends. If thhis were well made, the factory could offer 2 sizes. Summary: For against a wall only, (unless aesthetics aren't an issue). Converts to bed for less-tall people. Beta model, not made to last. Stock on hand should be marketed honestly, stating these drawbacks. Better yet, donate existing stock to charity. Some people will like it well enough, in proper context. Design is attractive, execution poor/fair. I'd have given 2 stars, because the style is good, but returning a large piece due to crummy workmanship merits demotion for waste. I'd advise the factory to suspend production until execution is revised/improved. Caveat Emptor. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Dorel Home Products Emily Splitback Futon, Black (Misc.) It is much better looking than the photo, which appeared to me to be microfiber. It's actually a great-looking and easy to maintain matte vinyl. It looks it should cost a lot more than 8. It was super quick and easy to put together and looks and feels quite sturdy and durable. It is probably not terrribly comfortable as a bed but it is fine as a sofa which is all I intend to use for. It also arrived an entire week ahead of the estimated delivery time and in excellent condition. I am extremely happy with this purchase. |
